King Edward Hotel,
Hongkong, October 21st., 1903.
Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge re-
ceipt of your letter No. 8182/1909 C.S.0. of the 20th. instant.
ì made no complaint that I had not been

allowed to cross-examine the witnesses. I meant that had 1
been on my trial 1 should have been allowed the right and then
would have been the time and not subsequently and 1 could have
easily proved the falsity of the so-called evidence taken by
the Commission.

In regard to paragraph 3 of your letter
of the 17th. October, while agreeing with you that the Commis-
sion was one to enquire into the general working of the Regis-
try (appointed on the very morrow of the refusal of the
Government to interfere in a scandalous assault committed by
the Puisne Judge upon myself, and before I had been allowed
breathing time to consider what steps 1 should take both in
reference to the Chief Justice and the Fuisne Judge) the so-
called evidence clearly shews that the Commission (a travesty
of justice) did not enquire into the general working of the
Registry at all but aimed at my removal from office. I need
only point out in that respect to the amusing questions put
to some of the "five" as to what sort of a Registrar they
would like, thereby shewing that they had come to a decision
and prejudiced my case before they had entered into the duties
of the Commission, the only charge the Commissioners daring to
bring against me, viz.:- incompetency, discovered at the 11th.
hour
